Hobba.

Making it easier to start

September 6, 2026 · Sebastian

One week after 1.1, version 1.2 has cleared review — the biggest update Hobba has had so far. Its theme is the moment a list gets too big and you’d rather look away. For minds that overflow quickly — and for everyone else too.

Quick wins

A list for everything that takes five minutes — for the moment you want to get something small done before touching the big thing. A #quick tag is enough, or “5 min” in the title; Hobba sets the tag itself. Plus a widget with exactly one quick win: check it off right on the Home Screen, the next one moves up. And “Today” shows a ring for how much of the day is already done.

Too much for today?

If more open tasks sit in “Today” than you set out to do, the list quietly asks once a day. “Pick three”: what you mark stays — the rest moves to tomorrow. No nagging, no red counter; the threshold lives in Settings under “View”.

One at a time

Exactly one task from “Today”, large, nothing else. Done, Later or Tomorrow — and a 5- or 25-minute timer that reports back even from the background. Less list, more starting. In the ••• menu of “Today”.

Break into steps

A task that has been sitting for days usually just needs a first step. In the expanded card, Apple Intelligence suggests steps — the first one is the smallest possible start. Accept each suggestion on its own or all at once; only what you accept is saved, and nothing leaves the device.

Your week

Above the Log there is now a calm card: done in the last seven days, in which projects, the best day, and how many days in a row something got done. No karma, no comparison with others — just your own week, so you see it once.

“Upcoming” as a week grid

A board whose columns are days, with one column for everything later. Switch at the top right of the list header. Drag cards, select several, share: everything as on the project board. If you prefer reading the week as an agenda, you keep it.

Reminders at a place — and loud, if need be

A reminder can now arrive when you reach or leave a place: search for it, pick a radius, done. It fires even when Hobba isn’t running, and again on every visit as long as the task is open. “Home” and “Work” can be saved as places — and then a sentence is enough: “Buy milk as soon as I’m at work”. Important reminders can ring as a real alarm, through the silent switch and any Focus (iOS 26 and up). And deadlines speak up on their own: on the morning of the lead day and once more on the day itself.

Hobba lives in the system

Open tasks and projects show up in Spotlight. In Control Center, “New Task” opens the entry field directly — on the Lock Screen and the Action Button, too. Every tag is now a list of its own, across all projects: “everything I can do on the phone”. And “Ask Hobba” lives in search — the same field filters results and takes your question.

Appearance

If you don’t like the glass, switch it off: the “Minimal” style — flat surfaces, no blur, no gradient, in light and dark. Widgets come in black on request, for OLED and for anyone who likes it calm. Eight new app icons made of stacked glass follow the appearance, the project icon set has grown to 48, and where Apple Intelligence runs, the background can be generated with Image Playground.

Also in this update

The entry sheet attaches photos and files right when you create a task, and sharing from another app can now bring images and files along. The trash empties when you want: never, after 7, 30 or 90 days. Settings show when something was last actually uploaded — and a button rebuilds sync if it gets stuck. The card is tidier, sections have their own menu, lifted rows melt into a drop, and the date sits above the overview instead of the app’s name.

One automatism that had to go

Automatic merging of duplicate entries is switched off. It could delete tasks for good, because every device decided on its own which copy stays — and that happened twice. Duplicates that iCloud creates after a rebuild now stay visible and can be deleted by hand. A duplicate entry is annoying; a lost task no longer happens. Also fixed: if another device deletes a row that is currently open, it disappears instead of crashing the app. A project shows exactly as many tasks as its tile. The number next to “Today” no longer counts what’s checked off.

Version 1.2 is available now as a free update on the App Store — on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The launch price still applies until September 10. And 1.3 — with shared projects — is in the works; what it should bring is on What’s next.

Hobba is a to-do app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch — no account, no subscription, no tracking. On the App Store since August 30, 2026: one purchase, no monthly bill.
