The title reads along
The fastest input is the one where you don't have to input anything. Build 51 is almost entirely about that one sentence.
A date nobody types in
“Buy milk tomorrow” becomes a task for tomorrow. “Invoice by the 15th” gets a deadline. “Take out the bins every Tuesday” repeats. Hobba reads the day, the time, the deadline and the pattern out of the title — and cuts the words away where you wrote them. They leave the title and reappear as a proper date on the task.
The reason for the feature is mundane: if you don't know it's there, you tap “Date” every single time — and never notice that you didn't have to. That's why the introduction now has a page of its own for it. And it isn't limited to the entry sheet: Siri, Shortcuts and the Apple Watch read the same sentence.
Ten lines, ten tasks
The minutes of a meeting, a shopping list from a chat, the bullet points of an email: you already have the text, it just isn't tasks yet. Paste it into the title field now and Hobba asks whether that should become ten tasks. Bullets and numbering are stripped along the way — and each line brings its own date.
Two dates are not the same date
You can do your tax return whenever. It has to be finished by July 31. Those are two different pieces of information, and until now Hobba only had one of them.
Tasks now carry both: a day you plan to do something on, and a deadline it has to be finished by. The deadline does not move when you reschedule the work — rescheduling doesn't impress the tax office. And it speaks up on its own as it draws near, even for tasks without a day at all.
“Someday” was a claim, not a list
Until now, “Someday” held everything without a date — which was almost everything. A list that holds almost everything says nothing. Now only what you deliberately set aside lands there, and the task shows it.
For existing users that means the list will be empty right after the update. Nothing is lost — your tasks are still in the Inbox or in their project.
And the Mac is finally a Mac
A find on the side, but an instructive one. Right-clicking a project row simply refused to work on my Mac — and the bug wasn't in the code. Until build 51 there was only an iOS archive in TestFlight; anyone installing Hobba on a Mac actually got the iPad app, without a menu bar and without right-click menus. Since build 51 a second archive goes up with it.
All of this is in build 51 and live in the beta now. Whatever doesn't work only stays broken as long as nobody tells me — that's what the beta is for.
Hobba is a to-do app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch — no account, no subscription, no tracking. On the App Store since 30 August 2026: one purchase, no monthly bill.
